What are A Rated Windows? What is Low E Glass?
In an attempt to provide a useful comparison between alternative window constructions the British Fenestration Rating Council have defined a "Window Energy Rating" WER, ranging from A for the best down through B and C etc. This takes into account a combination of the heat loss through the window ( U value ), the solar gain ( g value ), and loss through air leakage around the frame ( L value ). For example, an A Rated window will in a typical year gain as much heat from solar gain as it loses in other ways. This provides better thermal performance than a typical wall.
How energy-efficient glazing works:
Double-glazed windows have two sheets of glass with a gap between them, usually about 16mm, to create an insulating barrier that keeps heat in. This is sometimes filled with gas. Triple-glazed windows have three sheets of glass, but aren’t always better than double-glazed windows: to choose the most energy-efficient window look for the BFRC rating and Energy Saving Trust Recommended logo.
Energy-efficient windows come in a range of frame materials and styles. They also vary, depending on:
- how well they stop heat from passing through the window
- how much sunlight travels through the glass
- how little air can leak in or out around the window.
- Glass: The most energy-efficient glass for double glazing is low emissivity (Low-E) glass. This often has an unnoticeable coating of metal oxide, normally on one of the internal panes next to the gap. This lets in light and heat but cuts the amount of heat that can get out.
- In between: Very efficient windows might use gases such as argon, xenon or krypton in the gap between the sheets of glass.
- Pane spacers: These are set around the inside edges to keep the two panes of glass apart. For maximum efficiency, look for pane spacers containing little or no metal – often known as ‘warm edge’ spacers.
In a Nutshell:
Basically, new double glazed units are coated with a special energy effiecient layer which traps solar energy in your home and have a special gas inside them and have a special edging bar.
We replace your existing glass (not the frames, just the glass) with the new energy efficient glass. No Mess. No fuss. All done in a day or less.
My Door Handles are Loose!
An annoying problem. Loose and wonky door handles.
We fix'em.
We replace them with the same or similar handles.
You're happy.
We're happy.
Do you fix Sliding Patio Door Rollers and Sliding Patio Door Tracks?
Yes, we fix Sliding Patio Door Rollers and Sliding Patio Door Tracks.
Mostly, we replace them. Patio Door Rollers in Dublin seem to be of two different types mostly, and we carry both. So, if your sliding patio door is hard to close or is jumping off its track - then we can help.
I can't lock my Door or I can't unlock my door.
Well, as you might have guessed this means your lock is broken or something is at least not right with your lock or door.
We can open your locked shut door and fix or replace your lock (usually a multipoint lock).
Sometimes it can be something really simple like a door adjustment, which means that the door and lock are out of alignment.
We fix all these problems - most of time on our first visit to you too.
Do you fit Child Locks or Child Restrictors to Windows?
Child Safety Locks are an excellent way of securing your double glazing against little people opening your windows and then endangering themselves.
Our Child Safety Locks are hidden inside the frames of Double Glazed Windows so little fingers can't find them.
In the event of an emergency our Child Safety Locks can be opened quickly and easily without a key or a screw driver or a special alan key. Just your finger.
We fit them quickly and easily and with no mess or messing.
I need more locks on my windows.
You need more locks on your windows.
ok. Well you have a number of options available to you depending on what windows you already have, such as UPVC or Aluminium or Wooden windows. Also, depending on what existing locks you have already may impact on what extra locks we can fit.
But, most of the time - we can fit extra locks to your windows.
My Double Glazing has Condensation INSIDE it!!
This happens when the seals on the outside of the Double Glazed Unit expire - it's known as a "blown unit".
Your glass in the double glazing is made like a 'glass sandwich' - the two panes of glass are stuck together with a bitumen seal around the outside. There's also a load of silica beads - a naturally occurring mineral that is purified and processed into either granular or beaded form. As a desiccant, it has an average pore size of 2.4 nanometers and has a strong affinity for water molecules.
Once the Bitumen seal opens and onced the Silica absorbs all the water it can - then that's when the condensation appears.
The best way to cure this is to replace the Double Glazed Unit with a new one. We can do this totally pain and mess free.
Why won't my window open?
Your window is locked shut. You're turning the handle but it just won't open.
It is most likely the lock inside your upvc or aluminium window which is broken.
We can fix this. We open the window. We repalce the lock. You are back to normal.
What are Anti-Snap Locks?
The Lock Cylinder in your external Doors may be Euro Profile Lock Cylinders - in which case, unless you have had them replaced with Anti-Snap Cylinders, they are vulnerable to a certain type of attack which will 'snap' the lock and allow the burglar to open your door as though they have a key.
Anti-Snap or Pro-Snap or Snap-Safe Cylinders are designed to repel such an attack and so stop the burglar from opeing your door.
Anti-Snap locks look very similar to your exsiting lock, fit exactly where your existing lock is and can be fitted in less than 5 minutes.
Sooner or later Insurance Companies will be looking for Anti-Snap locks as a standard.
How long do most Repairs Take?
Beleive it or not, but most common repairs can be fixed the same day. As long as we have the correct parts to hand and you're happy with the price we can fix your windows. Toughened Safety Glass takes 2-3 working days to make up. Any extra parts can be ordered in which can take up to 10 working days but most of the time it's off the shelf parts which can be sought within a day or so.
Anti-Snap Locks take a day or so to make up as do lock suites.
But, most of the time, I manage to fix and repair or replace your window, lock door, hinge or handle or patio door roller within the day.
